Google September 2022 Core Update is Live
The September 2022 broad core update, Google Search’s second update of the year, has begun to roll out. It began rolling out on September 12, 2022 at about 11:25 a.m. ET and can take up to two weeks.
This change came after the Google helpful content upgrade, which was finalized on September 9th, Friday. Everyone was informed that the fifth product reviews update will be launched after the helpful content update. Instead we received a core update in its place.
As of right now, it is clear that this core update is gaining momentum and producing a great deal of general volatility. This is demonstrated by both the early SEO community conversation and the Google tracking tools. Since the rollout, some are reporting traffic decreases of 20–60%.

Helpful content is weighted, so sites on the edge might not see issues. But if they also have core update issues, the combo might be more significant. pic.twitter.com/tQZcsZQHkp
Instagram’s Recommended Content Best Practices
Instagram updates its creator advice on how to increase reach with suggested content.
In order to boost their eligibility for recommendations, Instagram releases new best practices for artists to adhere to.
Photos and videos from Instagram accounts you don’t follow are referred to as recommendations.
Instagram’s reels tab, explore feed, and main feed all have recommended material.
Based on signals including the volume and speed of other users’ likes, comments, shares, and saves, Instagram decides whether to recommend a piece of content.
A user’s previous interactions with a content creator, as well as other posts they have liked or commented on, are taken into consideration.
Your reach and audience growth may be favourably impacted when your material appears as a suggested image or video.
All companies and content providers attempting to increase their followings have as one of their goals getting their material included in Instagram’s recommendation system.
Instagram offers a list of recommended practices for users to adhere to in order to aid more individuals in achieving that aim.
Best Practices for Instagram Recommendations
First, you need a public account in order to qualify for recommendations. Content from private accounts won’t be recommended on Instagram.
The next step is to adhere to Instagram’s suggested criteria.
The types of content that Instagram seeks to recommend to users in their feeds are covered by strict criteria.
Community guidelines, which specify what may and cannot be on Instagram, are different from recommendation guidelines.
Content that violates Instagram’s editorial standards includes:
- Content that can include violent images, like individuals fighting
- Content that encourages the use of specific regulated goods, like tobacco or e-cigarettes
Content that can be provocative or sexually explicit, including images of people wearing transparent clothing - Finally, you must adhere to Instagram’s community standards. Instagram will notify you or remove the content if you are not abiding by the community standards.
Instagram Best Practices
To maximize reach through recommendations, Instagram advises adhering to the following best practices:
- Post unique material: Instagram intends to expand the audience of content creators who produce their own content rather than collecting content from other sources.
- Create material for reels: Include Instagram reels in your content plan to increase the chances that people will promote your work.
- Enhancing for search: Use hashtags and evocative captions to help your content emerge in search results. Optimizing your bio and profile name also helps.
Google Isn’t Finished Rolling Out Its Update For Useful Content
We continue to monitor this Google helpful content update to see whether it has any effect on the rankings, but so far, we have not noticed any significant, Panda-like adjustments. No need to worry; as Danny Sullivan noted yesterday, Google will update this page once it is finished.
Danny Sullivan said on Twitter “Update isn’t done.” “It’s also part of a continuing effort, as we’ve explained. We’ll keep refining how it works. Directionally, the guidance we’ve given is what SEOs and creators should be considering”.
Google’s John Mueller added that it requires a little more time:
I'd give it a bit more time.

Therefore, it does seem as though the impact will be noticed at some point in the future, whether with the current rollout or possibly in a future one? Maybe? Or perhaps all SEOs truly do generate fantastic content, therefore neither they nor their clients will be impacted by this update?
More from Danny Sullivan follows:
Those who have content with issues, there can be reasons why they might not want to be particularly vocal about a change...

Techniques for Making Your Blog an SEO Powerhouse
Here are three strategies to turn your WordPress blog (or website) into a search-friendly traffic generator if you have a few hours to spare. Except for the time you will invest, they are all free.
Set up a reliable SEO plugin
WordPress SEO by Yoast, which makes it simple as a red light, yellow light, and green light, is my preferred free SEO solution. Pretty simple, yes? Remember that merely installing this plugin isn’t beneficial in and of itself, despite the fact that many bloggers stop at this first stage. Knowing how to use it properly and selecting the appropriate keywords will give it its true strength.

Keyword Research
To learn more about the terms that generate the most traffic, visit the Google Keyword Popularity Tool and spend some time researching your keywords. The idea with keywords is to ALWAYS do research to make sure you are choosing popular keywords that best suit your product, service, and/or blog topic. Never assume you know which keywords are best.
You are considerably more likely to rank well if you employ regional keywords for your SEO campaigns, such as “life coach in phoenix” or “az life coach,” instead of just “life coach,” with the added bonus of attracting more focused readers. If your firm is local, this is extremely crucial.
I advise opening a free AdWords account (or logging in if you already have one) and then searching for the keywords you believe will receive the most traffic. You may analyze local search results by adding your city and state, and you’ll also get some fantastic suggestions for blog entries that go along with what people are searching for. Google will display a list of additional pertinent terms that were actually searched for in the previous month based on the keywords you supplied. I prefer to export them to Excel, remove any extra columns, rank them in order of popularity, and then save the file for further reference.

Pick one keyword, and then use it in your post's permalink, title, and opening paragraph.
Make sure WordPress is configured to automatically add the keyword to your post URL, commonly known as the permalink, by setting it to name the page URL as your post name (which can be adjusted in settings> permalinks>post name). This is crucial for the success of SEO.
Then, simply paste the first phrase of the post into the “Meta Description” area and use the default text for the “SEO title” field at the bottom of the page (which is your title plus the name of your blog). If excellent writing demands that the keyword NOT be used in the first sentence (which happens frequently but is not ideal), then paste the first line from the blog that DOES contain the keyword, or create one that does and summarizes the post in a way that would entice readers to read it. You’re done once you enter the term in the “Meta Keywords” field.
When you choose one keyword to concentrate on and use it in the trifecta of permalink, page title, and page description, SEO magic happens.
Before hitting publish, make sure the keyword is appropriate and relevant, and that it appears several times in the body of the post. While there are other procedures and strategies that can improve SEO, that will be the subject of another post.
